As business owners we tend to be biased about who our product is for. Maybe, just maybe our product is for everyone. Wrong! It isn’t. The sooner we come to terms and start directing our product at the perfect audience, we’ll dramatically see a sales increase.
Haircuts
I remember a story about a 1960s motivational speaker. Back then there was limited targeting power. IE no internet, and mass marketing was mainly through direct mail. This motivational speaker, can’t remember his name, saw that the overwhelming majority of his audience had crewcuts, like the ones you get when you join the army. What this thinker did, whenever he visited the city he was speaking in; was head to \barber-shops and ask for lists. A list of clients who had gotten a crew cut. From there he sent out handwritten mail containing promotional offers to his upcoming seminars. Bingo! It was a success.
Know Your Audience
The people I work with don't have hundreds of millions of dollars to throw at mass marketing. The marketing we’ve become accustomed to on TV; Brand familiarity is a no go. What we can do is find commonalities from the people who’ve bought from us in the past. And start using their language in our marketing.
